Assalamualaikum and hi!
I feel like talking about the environment because someone came by my room asking for recyclable items just now. Came on the best time because my box of mineral waters were filling up with empty bottles already!
Here's an experience I want to share with all of you: I went to a family day with my sister a couple of months back, somewhere in Malacca. It was a really nice place with a view of the sea, but the beach there was a public beach. Thank goodness, it wasn't that crowded, so we still got to do our activities without having much hindrance. But it was really upsetting to see how contaminated the seaside was. There were plastic bags lying around, and I even saw some cooking utensils on the ground! The waves were coming in closer, so I rushed off to pick up as many rubbish as I could, and what made me touched was that some other people joined me in doing so too :') Imagine if those things ended up in the sea. I wouldn't even dare to take a swim, and I'm privileged enough to have that choice. But what about the organisms living in there?
The most disappointing part was that there were stalls and small restaurants by the beach (because it's a public one), yet none of the owners or workers bothered to keep the area clean. Maybe it's not their job, but they should have the conscience to do their part as a community there! I mean come on! You're doing business there! It's your turf! But I guess that's the reason: they're doing business. They're only in it for the money.
Maybe the environment won't get as clean as it was decades and centuries ago. But I want our future generation to be able to live seeing as much green as I did, as many animals as I saw, and breathing healthy air like I did (although it was cleaner in older times). Therefore, I urge each and everyone of us to play our part in conserving our environment in whatever way we can, because there's no place like home. And Earth is our home.
Anyway, I'm getting myself used to environment-friendly practices. Metal straws, reusable shopping bags, stuff like that. I also heard that we shouldn't buy clothes from fast fashion stores because when we wash these clothes, they will shed away microplastics that will eventually end up in the ocean. I'm all for protecting the sea against plastic and toxic pollution, and this seems like a bonus as well because I get to save money by not buying from fast fashion stores! Not that their products are that expensive anyway, but hey, I'm still a student and broke is my middle name... Whatever way I can do to maximise my cost savings, I'll do it! But of course, not at the expense of animals and the environment.
I guess that's it for today! There won't be any new words for today because my brain's too tired to form sentences haha. Plus, it's waaay past my bedtime already so your home girl gotta go get that much needed rest! I'll end this post with a quote from our queen Bretman 'Da Baddest' Rock,
"Honey, we need to f**cking save turtles.. Because without turtles, we won't have turtles"
