Here's a picture of the TARDIS in Van Gogh's notable painting, "Starry Starry Night".

Assalamualaikum and hi!

Today, Class B went through a TOEFL practice set just like the real test. It was my first time having to take a full reading, listening, speaking, and writing test from a computer for a duration of 4 hours and I have to say that the experience was... unsatisfying? Can't find the right word for it. But since it was my first attempt, I don't think I did well, especially in the speaking section ;-; I kind of stuttered a lot, and ran out of ideas pretty fast too. After completing the whole practice, I replayed my speaking test answer files and instantly felt like jumping off a building I don't know, reflect on my sins, I guess?

Don't even get me started about the writing section; most of us forgot to save our files before finishing the test, so we had to redo our essays :) :) :) Sitting in front of a computer for 4 hours and having to interact with just the computer can be pretty tiresome and boring too... I kind of lost focus during the fifth lecture in the listening test.

Still, despite all these minor problems(oh right my PC restarted itself when I was halfway through the reading section -_-'), today's practice test was a definitely valuable experience. At least now we can come up with proper preparation for the upcoming TOEFL practice tests, and of course, the real deal. I find the reading passages and lectures to be very informative too; for today, in a 4 hour test, I learnt a bit about drainage patterns, the Beowulf epic, how aboriginal people identify themselves, and much more.

I admit that I kind of messed up in the practice test just now. But it's okay, because this is only the beginning. Today is a lesson to be learnt, If I start from the bottom and learn my mistakes as I keep practicing, the progress will somehow motivate me to continue improving myself, right?

So that's it for today! And here are some Words of the Day~

1. belligerent (adj) - angry and aggressive; feeling or showing readiness to fight
Example: She turned belligerent when her husband told her that he was planning to get a second wife.

2. mirth (n) - happiness and laughter
Example: Effy's clumsy attempt to cut the cake was the cause of much mirth.

3. besot (transitive v) - to make dull or stupid; especially to muddle with drunkenness
Example: Jeff was besotted because he drank too much beer last night.

4. poignant (adj) - causing a strong feeling of sadness
Example: Louisa recalled a poignant memory when she lost her family in the war.

5. solicitous (adj) - showing concern or care for someone's health, happiness, etc.
Example: Having a solicitous husband who does not mind doing the house chores and taking care of the children is Clara's dream marriage.
